Team impact

Team Impact is designed to ensure a safe, supportive, and rewarding experience. Once your application has been received, we'll guide you through each stage of the process, from informal chat and onboarding to placement within a suitable role. Clear guidance and support are provided throughout your volunteering journey.

We welcome applications from young people aged 16 or 17 years old. Whether you’re looking to gain experience, develop new skills, or give back to the community, there maybe a role that’s right for you.

We are a DoFE approved provider. Join us if you are starting or completing your Duke of Edinburgh Award.

We ask that you can complete 60 hours of volunteering and you have 3 to 4 hours to complete 1 shift per week.

  • Applications submitted by the closing date and shortlisted
  • Successful applicants are invited to a one-to-one informal chat at the hospital site.

If your application has been successful you will be taken through recruitment checks and clearances. These are completed to ensure the safety of patients, staff, visitors and volunteers. So these pre-placement checks are needed before you can begin volunteering. These include:

  • Parental consent
  • 1 reference - usually a teacher or tutor from school or college
  • Occupational Health Check
  • DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service)

Volunteers will also be expected to complete the Volunteer Initial Training before they can begin volunteering. This is to prepare volunteers for their placement. This is approximately 3 hours in an evening.

  • Once the clearances and training are completed an Induction to a volunteer role is arranged.

Once you start volunteering we offer continuous support and guidance throughout your volunteer journey.

These are the types of volunteer roles that maybe on offer when you apply. We cannot arrange work placements or experiences.

  • Outpatient Welcoming/Support
  • Ward Support
  • Phlebotomy Support/Runner
  • BookTrolley - Rolling Reads
  • Admin/Survey support

Hospital sites include the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and the Northern General Hospital.
