Important information
- We require a weekly time commitment of between 3-4 hours per week (depending on role) for a minimum period of 6 months. If you cannot commit to this please do not apply.
- Our volunteering roles work best when volunteers are able to commit to a regular weekly shift. We can accommodate more flexible volunteering, depending on the role, but we cannot guarantee this and you may not get the optimum volunteer experience.
- The majority of our roles are within office hours, Monday-Friday. We have no roles in the evening and very limited availability on weekends.
- We recruit at fixed points throughout the year. To find out when we will next open recruitment please see “To apply to be a volunteer’ section.
- You must be willing to undertake the relevant recruitment checks, including DBS (criminal records check) where appropriate, as well as completing our mandatory training and attend our half day initial training session.
- It can take up to 8 weeks from initial application to starting your volunteering role, depending on how quickly your recruitment checks and mandatory training are completed. With your help and cooperation we can often reduce this to just a couple of weeks.
- Volunteering is not a work placement and the Voluntary Services Team are not able to complete course workbooks associated with college courses.
- The role you are placed in will depend on your availability and the spaces we have in our schedules.
- Following completion of a placement, a reference can only be provided if the volunteer has completed the minimum commitment of 6 months or the equivalent number of hours volunteering.
If you are under 18 we offer a bespoke volunteering scheme each autumn called Team Impact. We do not recruit volunteers under 18 years of age at other times of year. For more information please contact us.
If so, please see the dedicated page for this on the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals website. Work experience is a separate service run by another department.
