Biography

Dr Bhide is a registered specialist in Rehabilitation Medicine and currently works as a Consultant in Spinal Injuries and Amputee & Prosthetics at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He works at the Princess Royal Spinal Cord Injuries Centre for the Spinal Injuries service and at the Mobility and Specialised Rehabilitation Centre for the Amputee and Prosthetics service, where he is also currently the clinical lead. 
His primary training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation was from CMC, Vellore, followed by two fellowships in MSK and Spinal Cord Medicine from Toronto and Sheffield.

His areas of interest include:

  • Musculoskeletal disorders - Non-operative interventional management & rehabilitation of various musculoskeletal disorders, muscle physiology, biomechanics and conditioning of individuals with impairments and injuries.
  • Spinal cord injury – Management of acute and chronic spinal cord related issues with special focus on MSK and secondary health complications.
  • Amputee and Prosthetics -  Development of a holistic pathway for management of pain and secondary issues following amputation.
  • Complex pain management – Holistic management of chronic pain conditions.
  • Research – His research revolves around his areas of interest.

Consultant Urological Surgeon and Spinal Injuries Urologist


Nicholas Boxall is a Consultant Urologist based at both the Princess Royal Spinal Cord Injuries Centre, and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. Nick graduated from Manchester Medical School, having taken an intercalated BSc at UCL in Orthopaedic Science based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore for which he was awarded 1st Class Honours.

Nick started his postgraduate career as an Academic Foundation Doctor in Sheffield and undertook a PGCert in Medical Education as part of this. Having completed Urology-themed Core Surgical Training in South Yorkshire, Nick then went on to Salford Royal Hospital spending nearly three years in the Urology department as a Senior Clinical Fellow before successfully entering the East of England rotation for specialty training in Urology.

During his training, he had multiple roles at a national level including being Chair of BSoT (British Association of Urological Surgeons’ (BAUS) Section of Trainees) and on the ASiT (Association of Surgeons in Training) Council. Nick continues to provide educational roles at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels nationally and locally.

Nick's subspecialty interests include neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction, recurrent and chronic urinary tract infections, reconstructive urology, and voiding dysfunction

Mr Altaf Mangera

Consultant Urological Surgeon


Altaf Mangera is a Consultant Urologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer working at the Princess Royal Spinal Cord Injuries Centre and Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield. He graduated, with Honours, from the University of Sheffield, Faculty of Medicine in 2005. He was the first scholar ever to be awarded a two year fellowship from the Urology foundation and has subsequently completed his M.D. thesis in the field of tissue engineering for stress urinary incontinence.

His fellowship was undertaken in Pitie Salpetriere Paris, University hospitals Leuven and Balgrist University hospital Zurich. He has authored 15 book chapters and published 74 journal articles. He continues with ongoing research trials and his specialist interests include reconstructive urology, neuropathic bladder, tissue engineering, Andrology, male sexual dysfunction and fertility.

Dr Anand Viswanathan

Locum Consultant in Spinal Injuries/Rehabilitation Medicine Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Sheffield


Dr. Viswanathan, a specialist in Rehabilitation Medicine, currently works as a Locum Consultant at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, covering the Spinal Injuries Centre, Amputee & Prosthetics services, Major Trauma Rehabilitation, Movement Analysis Lab and the Sheffield Long Covid Hub.

He completed his specialist training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Christian Medical College Vellore, India. He then held a role in academic research at Cochrane South Asia and completed a fellowship in Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation from Sheffield. He is committed to expanding the evidence base for routine clinical practice of rehabilitation medicine to improve outcomes that matter to patients.
