Sheffield Vascular Institute

The Sheffield Vascular Institute (SVI) is a specialist collaborative unit providing diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving blood vessels. Surgeons and Interventional Radiologists work hand in hand to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Sometimes this involves traditional open surgical techniques and sometimes endovascular or “keyhole” techniques.

The SVI has a national reputation and is one of the biggest Vascular Units in the UK with a team of 8 Vascular Surgeons and 6 Vascular Interventional Radiologists and 3 specialist Vascular Nurses. We are supported by a team of Consultant Vascular Anaesthetists, Radiographers and Nurses.

The Sheffield Vascular Institute is located in the Firth Wing, at the Northern General Hospital and provides comprehensive services to the adult populations of Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham, a population of 1.5 million people. The SVI also provides services to the population of N Derbyshire, and complex highly specialist services to the populations of Doncaster and Bassetlaw and receives referrals from across the UK.

A consultant vascular Surgeon and consultant vascular Radiologist is available on-call every day, 24 hours a day for trauma, bleeding and vascular emergencies. The SVI serves the new major trauma centre for South Yorkshire based at the Northern General Hospital.
