Procurement

With over 18,500 staff and an operating budget in excess of £1bn, we are one the UK’s largest NHS Foundation Trust – providing a broad range of healthcare services to the population of Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and beyond.

Our Procurement Department manages procurement and logistics for both our own hospitals and services, as well as for Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

We also work alongside regional and national partners, collaboratively within the South Yorkshire Integrated Care System (ICS) Procurement Collaborative and The Shelford Group, to maximise our purchasing power, efficiency, and ensure value for money.

What we do

Procurement – we work with our staff and other stakeholders to identify routes to market for a huge number of products, goods, suppliers, and services – everything from basic medical supplies like bandages and beds, to innovative technology and multi-million pound equipment and services.

Contract management to ensure value is achieved and what is expected is delivered.

Financial and regulatory support – supporting colleagues to: understand and navigate complex public sector procurement laws and processes, abide by Trust Financial Standing Instructions, running exercises to identify the best Contractor for their needs via procurement processes, and ensure proper audit trails with robust record keeping.

Logistics and materials management – managing stock across our hospitals and monitoring the shelf life of goods to help reduce waste.

Social value

We are committed to sustainable procurement and use the Social Value Model. Where applicable, a minimum of 10% of the total, maximum decision-making score is applied to all procurement projects. The Act of Law relating to Social Value is here: Social Value Act.

The Social Value Themes are as follows:

1) COVID-19 recovery – Support local communities to manage and recover from impact of Covid-19
2) Tackling economic inequality – Creation of new business, jobs and skills development and increasing Supply Chain resilience and capacity.
3) Fighting climate change – including working towards net zero carbon emissions
4) Equal opportunity – Reducing the disabilities employment gap and tackling workforce inequality
5) Wellbeing – Improve health and wellbeing and improve community integration
The Social Values Model published by the Government can be found here.
