X-Ray (General Radiography)

X-Ray, or General Radiography, is the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging, making it a vital tool in the diagnosis of many disorders.

The X-Ray department accept referrals from: hospital wards, Accident and Emergency (A & E), Outpatient Clinics, Specialist Physiotherapists, General Practitioners (GPs) and Dentists.

There are Radiology departments across all sites within the Trust: Northern General Hospital, Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Weston Park Hospital and Charles Clifford Dental Hospital.

Northern General Hospital

The Northern General is the largest of the STH hospitals. Located to the north of the city, the hospital is spread out over a large site. The general radiography department is divided into several sections, the main department being situated on ‘D’ floor within the Huntsman building on the Vickers Corridor.

Royal Hallamshire Hospital

Located to the west of the city. The General Radiography department is primarily based on ‘C’ floor with a smaller department on ‘B’ floor.

Patients who have been referred from their GP for a chest X-Ray are able to attend either the Royal Hallamshire Hospital or the Northern General Hospital as a walk-in service. X-Ray referrals for any other body part please ring the Radiology Contact Centre on 0114 2268000 to make an appointment.
