Medical Imaging and Medical Physics Home

 The Directorate of Medical Imaging and Medical Physics is one of the largest and most diverse Directorates within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The role of the Directorate is twofold:

  • The provision of diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures.
  • The provision of high quality scientific and technical services in Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering.

The Directorate holds a budget of £43 million and employs some 781 members of staff who work across all five hospital sites within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

Medical Imaging and Medical Physics is a key player in every aspect of the services the Trust provides and also delivers services to other Trusts and external organisations. Our highly-trained workforce encompasses a diverse combination of medical, clinical, scientific, technical, administrative and support staff.

This provides a unique infrastructure for advanced diagnostics and treatments in a safe environment with full legislative and best practice compliance, all of which is supported by our innovative capability.

Medical Imaging and Medical Physics is an Academic Directorate with close links to local and national universities with a focus on strengthening research and innovation to improve clinical care.
