Links Between Cardiology and University

The Cardiology Directorate has strong links with the University of Sheffield and works closely with them to produce high quality research. The department of Infection, Immunity and Cardiovascular Disease was formed in September 2015 following the merger of the former department of Cardiovascular Science and Infection. The University Cardiology department is based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and spans across 4 floors. The Cardiology department have conducted many research projects in conjunction with the University of Sheffield and have delivered a high quality of research recruiting more than 2000 patients.
 
The Cardiology department in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals has a dedicated research unit titled the Cardiovascular Research Unit (CVRU). This unit has specialised team members consisting of highly trained Clinical Research Coordinators who conducted and manage numerous research projects. The CVRU team is overseen by Professor Robert Storey who is an Honorary Consultant in Cardiology. Professor Storey is the Director of the CVRU team and he had led the way in numerous Acute Coronary Syndrome studies such as PEGASUS and PLATO.
