Fraudulent statements regarding kidney transplant

The transplant team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust do not offer payment to living donors.

This practice is forbidden in UK law by the Human Tissue Act 2004 and is condemned by the international transplant community in the Declaration of Istanbul.

We are aware of fraudulent statements on the internet and a fraudulent email address that suggests a member of the team is involved in making payment to donors. We categorically deny this allegation. We have reported this fraud to the UK Police. We strongly advise all members of the public to ignore fraudulent offers of payment for kidney donation made in person or by electronic media of any sort.

We continue to offer high quality assessment for all directed and non-directed donors in our unit. Donation in the UK is always voluntary and the only payment supported by the NHS is for legitimate expenses.
