Referrals to GPAU should be made via Single Point of Access (SPA) Tel - 0114 305 1460. GPs will be asked if they have considered an alternative to admission to hospital and will have the opportunity to speak to a clinician to discuss what services are available. If hospital assessment is required, the referral will be passed to Assessment Bureau (formerly named Bed Bureau) for action in the current way.
Please note that patients referred in this way will be assessed by specialists appropriate to their presenting complaint(s), but will not be guaranteed admission.
