Rheumatology clinics

Referral to the hospital Rheumatology service is made via rheumatology consultants, specialist nurses, podiatrists and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

Clinics and Times

Northern General Hospital (Metabolic Bone Density Unit)
Monday mornings once a month

Royal Hallamshire Hospital (Rheumatology Outpatients)
Monday mornings and Wednesday afternoons each week

Central Health Clinic (Podiatry)
Thursday afternoons each week

Most new patients are assessed within 8 weeks of receiving a referral. A detailed history is taken of the current foot problem and the blood and nerve supply is also checked. How the foot moves and any footwear issues are also assessed. Advice on safe foot care is provided.

Management of foot deformities can either be conservative or require a surgical approach. Both options are discussed and where appropriate a referral is made back to the consultant. Bespoke footwear can also be arranged through this clinic. The podiatrist can also refer you on for foot and ankle x-rays and for ultra sound scans if they are needed.

Cath Gregory is the rheumatology podiatrist. She has a postgraduate certificate in rheumatology and a masters module in rheumatology, disease process and management.
