Northern General Hospital

The Northern General Hospital, situated in the north of Sheffield, is home to the city's adult accident and emergency department. A separate accident and emergency department for children can be found at the Sheffield Children's Hospital. 

The Northern General is the largest hospital campus within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust spanning 100 acres. It is situated approximately three miles from the hospitals at the central campus and is easily accessed via the M1 motorway.

The hospital has over 1100 beds and employs more than 6,000 staff. Together with the other hospitals managed by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, a wide range of specialist services are provided including orthopaedics, renal, heart and lung services and a state of the art, purpose built Spinal Injuries Unit.

At the Northern General Hospital visiting times are strictly between 8am - 8pm

However, in special circumstances, for example if you are travelling long distances to visit, please contact the ward manager in advance to discuss other possible arrangements.
