Sheffield Teaching Hospitals nurses attend Buckingham Palace reception

Two nurses from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals have attended a special reception for international nurses and midwives at Buckingham Palace.

Sheeba Jefferson, Deputy Nurse Director in the South Yorkshire Regional Services (Cardiac & Thoracic, Renal and Vascular) care group and Anna Philipose, Matron in the Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Respiratory Medicine and Diabetes and Endocrine care group have attended a special reception at Buckingham Palace to recognise the contribution of international nurses and midwives in the UK.

The reception was held on Tuesday 14 November, also King Charles’ birthday.

Sheeba, who has worked in the NHS for 22 years, and Anna 20 years, said:

“We had such memorable experience – it was totally unforgettable. We felt very humbled and at the same time proud to be recognised for our nursing services. I am so grateful and happy that Anna and I were selected to attend, and would like to thank Chief Nursing Officer for England Dame Ruth May, Regional Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Lead Victoria Bagshaw and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Chief Nurse Professor Chris Morley for this momentous opportunity. It was a lovely time to pause, reflect and celebrate being Nurses. We feel so proud to be at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and represent Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and say: ‘thank you’ for all the support.”

Anna, who also met His Majesty The King as part of his Royal birthday celebrations, added:

“It has been one of those indescribable days in my nursing journey. I am incredibly grateful and privileged for the invitation from His Majesty to attend a reception at Buckingham Palace. The experience was truly unforgettable, and I am thankful to all the legends, as mentioned by Sheeba in her quote. I proudly conveyed to His Majesty that we were representing Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. One of the great fortunes in life was being able to extend my well-wishes to King Charles on his 75th birthday through a handshake. I sincerely hope that this was not merely a dream in our lives. “Thank you” does not seem sufficient to express my gratitude towards Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for the immense support.”

Professor Chris Morley, Chief Nurse for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, said:

“We are incredibly proud of Sheeba and Anna, so it was a real privilege to see their invaluable work to patients and the community recognised at this Royal event showcasing the remarkable contributions of international nurses and midwives in the UK.”
