Double award shortlisting for Sheffield Hospital Learning, Education and Development team
The Learning, Education and Development Department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have made it through to the finals for not only one, but two national awards.
The team have been shortlisted in both the CIPD People Management awards (CIPDMA) and the Personnel Today awards for initiatives which support staff training and development and enhance employee experience.
The department have been nominated within the Best Digital or Technology Initiative category in the CIDPMA’s, which recognise talent and outstanding performance across Human Resources (HR), Learning & Development (L&D) and Organisational Development (OD).
The nomination is for an initiative to optimise the way the department collect and use data to support staff learning and development. A number of improvements were made, including the introduction of a unique L&D ‘passport’ system which streamlines the transfer of any previous training data for new starters and ensures staff learning profiles are more individualised. The team also worked closely with managers across the Trust to enable more localised staff training data sharing, which highlights any areas which may need further support with training.
The team are also finalists for the Learning and Development Award (Larger Employers) category in the Personnel Today Awards, which celebrates excellence in HR and L&D.
This nomination was made following the relaunch of the Trust Learning, Education and Development (LED) department, which has a focus on providing visible, robust career pathways and optimising the opportunities and support available to staff. Key outcomes of the new department include the development and support of new healthcare roles, enhancing the employee experience from induction to appraisals, and improving and promoting the educational and development opportunities available to staff.
Karen Vella, Education, Learning and Staff Development Director at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for two awards. The new department has become an anchor for inclusion, accessibility and multi-disciplinary working and the nominations really reflect the hard work undertaken by the team and the investment in our workforce.”
