Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Wins Award for Care of International Nurses and Midwives

The NHS Pastoral Care Quality Award has been given to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for its outstanding commitment to providing best practice pastoral care to international nurses and midwives.

This esteemed accolade acknowledges the remarkable efforts of the Trust in ensuring that these valued colleagues receive tailored and enhanced support throughout their NHS journey and beyond.

Since 2019, over 816 nurses and midwives from overseas have joined the Trust, with more arriving every month of this year.

Professor Chris Morley, Chief Nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We are delighted so many international nurses and midwives have chosen to join us over recent years and ensuring they are welcomed, supported and nurtured both professionally and personally is critical to those colleagues feeling truly integrated as a key part of the team. This award is deserved recognition of everyone here who has played a part in making sure the experience of our international colleagues is a positive one.”

The NHS Pastoral Care Quality Award, launched in March 2022, is part of NHS England International Recruitment Programme. The aim of the scheme is to standardise the quality and delivery of pastoral care for internationally educated nurses and midwives across England to ensure they receive high-quality pastoral support.

Once a Trust achieves the award, they will be reassessed every three years.
