Research teams turn red to mark Red4Research Day
Research teams from across the Trust have celebrated Red4Research Day by wearing red outfits and holding red balloons.

Research teams from across the Trust have donned red outfits and held red balloons to show their support and appreciation of anyone who takes part in, supports, and undertakes clinical research.
#Red4Research Day started in 2020 to recognise the contributions everyone made to COVID-19 research, and how the research & development communities adapted rapidly to play a key role in helping communities around the world fight, and also recover, from COVID-19.
It continues to be celebrated to showcase the ongoing work and learnings that arose from that time and show that research doesn’t just happen – it is people that make it happen, whether they are the research participants, the members of the public who get involved in research, the regulatory bodies, the health professionals, the research administrative staff and many more!
Some of our research teams who are turning red to show their support and appreciation of anyone who takes part in, supports, and undertakes clinical research today are...
Our National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Sheffield Clinical Research Facility (CRF) supports early-phase and complex studies. Last year the Centre was awarded a £7.9 million funding boost to continue to world-leading research which supports the development and testing of new treatments for diseases. The CRF is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, and run in partnership with the University of Sheffield.
The Sheffield Cancer Clinical Trials Centre (CTCC) is a dedicated cancer clinical research facility committed to offering novel treatments and therapies to as many cancer patients as possible in Sheffield and across the region. The Centre’s portfolio of research covers all cancer disease areas – from screening and early detection of disease, to early phase first-in-human and large late phase clinical trials.
Our Academic Directorate of Diabetes and Endocrinology has built a national and international reputation in delivering clinically relevant research that has led to important advancements in the management of diabetes and diseases of the endocrine system.
The Sheffield Pulmonary Vascular Disease Unit (PVDU) research team supports research which helps us continually develop and improve the care and treatment of people with Pulmonary Hypertension and patients visiting the PVDU. The Unit is one of the largest pulmonary hypertension treatment centres in Europe and cares for patients from the Midlands, Nottingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Yorkshire & Humber and Wales to Sheffield. Current research includes trials in new medications, and remote monitoring studies.
The Sheffield National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) accelerates ground-breaking, lab-based discoveries into early-stage clinical research. In addition to the world-renowned neurological research already conducted at the centre, a new £12m funding boost will allow researchers to expand their investigations into other diseases such as cardiovascular disease, imaging and engineering, and inflammatory and infectious diseases.
