Clinical Support Worker Alex is a rising star

A Clinical Support Worker at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals has been named as a regional ‘rising star’ for his contribution to his team and patients.

Alex Brown received the North East and Yorkshire Healthcare Support Worker Rising Star Award at their conference on 12 October 2021.

He was recognised for his work within the musculoskeletal team and was praised for his calm and reassuring manner with patients, and his willingness to spend extra time with them and ensure they had everything they needed.

He was also praised for his adaptability and flexibility during the Covid pandemic, taking team and ward changes in his stride to respond to the changing clinical needs.

Alex is now undertaking a course to become a Trainee Nurse Associate, combining his clinical work with study at the University of Sheffield.

He said: “I was surprised but very happy to get the award, it was great news. I make sure I talk to patients and staff, and provide support and help when it is needed. It was hard work during covid but I adapted quickly and the team were lovely.”

He said his ambition in future was to become a fully qualified nurse.

Matron Stacie Harrington, who nominated Alex, said: “Alex shows great potential in his development. I often receive positive feedback from colleagues and I am sure that he has a long and successful career ahead of him. Well done Alex.”
