Sheffield Hospitals Procurement and Logistics Team shortlisted for COVID-19 Supply Award

The Procurement and Logistics team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust have been shortlisted as finalists for the Excellence in supply during COVID-19: NHS procurement heroes Award, recognising their exceptional support to the hospital and community staff during COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic, the team sourced over 52 million items of PPE and delivered over 16.5 million items of PPE within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals alone. They worked 7 days a week, 24hours a day and had support from 35 volunteers too. They re-designed all their systems and processes to provide an exemplary service which ensured patients and staff across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and community services had the PPE and other critical supplies they needed to care for patients. The team then went a step further and worked in partnership with other neighbouring hospitals across South Yorkshire to ensure they also had the supplies they needed.

Procurement Director at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Trust, Andrea Smith, said:

“The entire procurement and logistics team have done a phenomenal job during COVID-19 and have excelled in adapting processes, systems, working relationships and maintaining great engagement with national teams. I’d also like to acknowledge the excellent work of the Scientific Computing Team who literally built an inventory management system to handle COVID-19 procurement within a week, and Sheffield Arena, who has been marvellous and allowed us to use the site to store and distribute PPE. Each individual worked together as a team with one objective; to keep staff and patients safe, and I can’t thank them enough for the work they have done.”

Finance Director, Neil Priestley said:

“The work the Procurement and Logistics Team have done during COVID-19 has been a fundamental part of keeping staff and patients safe during the pandemic. They worked tirelessly throughout to ensure PPE and other critical products were there for staff when needed. The team really do deserve recognition for their efforts and to be shortlisted for the NHS Procurement Heroes Award.”

The NHS in the North Excellence in Supply Awards ceremony will be held digitally and announced live on YouTube and Twitter on 22 October 2020.
