Sheffield Hospitals looking to elect new governors to help shape services post COVID-19

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is encouraging local people who want to give something back to the NHS in the city to stand for election as a Trust governor.

The Trust, which runs the city’s five adult hospitals and community health services, is looking for people to put themselves forward with nominations now open.

The Chair of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, Tony Pedder, said:

“We care for over two million people in our five hospitals and in the community, as well as being a pioneer in clinical research and innovation. Of course COVID-19 has changed the world as we know it, and for the NHS and our Trust it means we have different challenges and opportunities ahead which these new governors will have an opportunity to be part of shaping.

“We are looking for people of all ages and backgrounds from across Sheffield and beyond who want to give something back to their local health service by becoming a governor. All that someone needs is some time to spare, a passion for the NHS and a commitment to support our incredible staff to provide the best care they can.

“Our governors are an important link with nearly 30,000 members of our Trust, many of whom are our staff, local residents and patients. Governors are also involved in a wide range of activities across the organisation ranging from individual service improvement projects to the appointment of Non-Executive Directors.

“This year we need public governors to represent the Trust’s constituencies in north Sheffield, south west Sheffield, west Sheffield and also in the patient constituency as well as staff governors for a number of different professions. We are looking forward to receiving applications from people who want to join our amazing team.”

The role of governor is a voluntary position. To stand for election, you need to be a member of the Trust. Membership is free and you simply need to complete a membership form. This available online at www.sth.nhs.uk/members/become-a-member.
