Would you like to thank a Healthcare hero?

Why not nominate them for a special ‘Thank You’ award?

Each year Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recognises dedicated hospital and community health staff and volunteers with a special awards ceremony.

The Trust’s Thank You Awards, which has been running for 16 years, celebrates individuals and teams that go above and beyond the call of duty to care for patients either in one of the City’s five adult hospitals or community health services such as district nursing, rehabilitation teams or community dentists/nurses and therapists to name a few.

In conjunction with The Star, the Trust has included an award category called ‘The Healthcare Hero Award’ which gives you the chance to nominate a staff member or team who has made a real difference, either in hospital or the community.

Shortlisted nominees will then be profiled in the Sheffield Star newspaper and readers will have the opportunity to vote for the winner.

If you would like to thank a member of staff at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, nominate them now by visiting www.sth.nhs.uk/awards

The closing date for nominations will be on the 31st May 2019.

Last year’s winner was Cheryl Wade, a community Support worker. Cheryl was nominated for going above and beyond to ensure patients receive the best care and the little extras she does that mean so much to the patient or their family.

Cheryl had recently been visiting a patient at home who was at the very end of life. Cheryl overheard the patient and her husband say that they really fancied a plate of fish and chips from the chip shop. Sadly the elderly couple could not get out to buy any, so Cheryl went out and bought them all some. They really enjoyed eating them and not long after, the lady sadly passed away that evening. The husband, although upset was very grateful that they had the opportunity to have this last meal together and his final parting words to Cheryl were "Well lass at least we had our fish and chips.”

In order to nominate:

• You must have the full name of the nominee and the department where they work
• You must be willing to come to the Northern General or Royal Hallamshire Hospital to be briefly filmed for the award ceremony video
• You must be aware that if the nominee doesn’t consent to take part when we contact them, we will not be able to process your nomination

The Thank You Awards are kindly sponsored by Sheffield Hospitals Charity which is the official NHS charity that helps patients being treated for almost every condition across all the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals sites.
