Trust procurement team one of first in country to achieve accreditation standard

The procurement team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has become one of the first in the country to achieve Level 2 accreditation under an NHS Procurement Standards scheme.

Level 2 accreditation demonstrates strong procurement performance and is awarded following a stringent peer review process. More than 500 pieces of evidence were submitted and interviews held with Trust executives, clinicians and members of the procurement team.

Assessors felt that Sheffield was a good example of a Trust which has embedded procurement routines across the organisation, and that procurement was well organised and well led, with very good working relationships and support at board level.

Their report said: “The team demonstrated that they are a well organised and motivated team that provides a valued procurement service to the Trust.

“All members of the team demonstrated a professional and knowledgeable approach and were clearly proud of the service they provide.”

The key areas assessed for the procurement standards were:

1. Strategy & Organisation
2. People & Skills
3. Strategic Procurement
4. Supply Chain
5. Data, Systems and Performance Management
6. Policies & Procedures

Andrea Smith, the Trust’s Director of Procurement, said: “We are very proud to be one of the first procurement teams in the country to achieve the Level 2 accreditation, and it really demonstrates how far the team have progressed.

“It shows that we are working to a good standard in procurement.”
