Sheffield Hospital arts project scoops Building Better Healthcare Award
An arts project at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals has been announced winner of a 2018 Building Better Healthcare Award for its impact on patient experience.
The ‘In and Out of Hospital’ arts programme was announced winner of the Patient’s Choice Award at the Building Better Healthcare Award ceremony on 31st October.
The ‘In and Out of Hospital’ programme is funded by Arts Council England and Sheffield Hospitals Charity and supports long term creative art workshops for four different patient areas across the Trust including, Spinal Cord Injuries, Palliative Care and Hearing Impairment.
Mir Jansen, Arts Coordinator at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “We are so excited to have received this award. Patients who are in hospital for a long time benefit greatly from taking part in sociable, creative activities. The arts sessions are not only very therapeutic for the patients on the ward, but can also aid in their rehabilitation by enabling them to take part in activities that are joyful, distracting and stimulating.”
The ‘In and Out of Hospital’ programme is now staging its final project with the Stroke patient group based at the new Stroke Pathway Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre (SPARC) in Norfolk Park with visual artist Elisa Artesero.
