Elaine Green, Clinical Services Manager, and Gabrielle Coe, District Nurse Team Leader, were among just 510 nurses across the UK recognised this year.
One of the highest accolades in the nursing profession, the Queen’s Nurse title is not an award but a professional recognition. It celebrates nurses who demonstrate a sustained commitment to ongoing learning, leadership and excellence in community healthcare.
Elaine Green has been a registered Nurse for over 27-years, specialising in Palliative Care, Oncology and Haematology. For the past 16 years, she has dedicated her career to community nursing, including hospice care, with a consistent focus on placing patients and their loved ones at the heart of everything she does. She currently leads three city-wide services: Ambulatory Wound Care and Lymphoedema Service, Community Continence Service, and the Intensive Home Nursing Service (IHNS). Elaine said:
“I am extremely proud and honoured to be awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse (QN). My ambition as a Queen’s Nurse is to continue to grow as a leader and be a role model for others by being present, visible and to creatively collaborate to find innovative ways to strive to maintain high standards of patient care, effective and efficient service delivery.”
Gabrielle Coe is District Nurse Team Leader for Beighton Townships and is responsible for leading, supervising and supporting a team of community nurses to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care to patients in their own homes. Gabrielle empowers patients to maintain independence while overseeing safe discharges, hospital avoidance and complex care planning. Speaking on her award, Gabrielle said:
“Becoming a Queen’s Nurse is an honour. It reflects my passion for community nursing and my dedication to improving services for patients, families, and carers. I look forward to working with the Queen’s Nursing Institute and colleagues across the network to shape the future of community care.”
Professor Chris Morley, Chief Nurse at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, commented:
"I’m delighted to see Elaine and Gabrielle honoured with this recognition. Queen’s Nurses embody excellence and leadership in community nursing, and this title highlights their outstanding dedication to delivering exceptional patient care. We’re incredibly proud to have them as valued members of our team at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust."
