International Day of the Midwife

We're celebrating our midwives to mark International Day of the Midwife (5 May)

A big thank you to our amazing Jessop Wing Maternity midwives for the phenomenal care, support and compassion they provide to women, babies and their families at one of the most important times in their lives.

Jessop Wing is a specialist maternity unit, caring for over 5,500 babies a year, with our midwives receiving excellent feedback from women, families and the staff themselves over the last year.

Watch this special message from our Chief Nurse Chris Morley recognising and celebrating the incredible work they do every day:

Jessop Wing was recently ranked as the 11th most improved maternity hospital in the country, according to feedback given by pregnant women and new mothers in the 2024 Care Quality Commission maternity survey.

Here's a selection of some of the lovely comments we received on our Trust Facebook page on International Day of the Midwife:

"What an amazing group of professionals. Congrats to all our amazing Sheffield Midwives. You are all phenomenal and I’m proud to work alongside you everyday."

"The care I received from Jessops 7 years ago was above & beyond just the same as the care we received in Rotherham 11yrs ago! They saved my child’s life and the midwife stayed an hour over her shift to carry on caring for us - she was amazing."

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in my care when I had my second baby last week. The level of care we both received from arrival to discharge via a scary emergency Caesarean section was nothing short of incredible! You all do a wonderful job, thank you again from myself and baby Sienna!"

"To all midwives at Jessops Wing including my amazing daughter you are all totally awesome and deserve this appreciation and much more."

"Will never forgot the care shown from community, to delivery, to post natal. You’re all absolute angels. What always stood out to me was beyond the skill and expertise, it’s the sheer care and human kindness. You can’t teach that and we are grateful for every single one of you."

"Thanks to all the amazing Midwifes and midwifery staff at Jessops."
