Local Superheroes Big Push for Jessop babies

Mums, dads, grandparents and children of all ages are being invited to take part in the third annual Jessops Buggy Push, a 5K sponsored walk to raise money for sick and premature babies in the Jessop Wing.
The Buggy Push, was started two years ago by local parents and was such a success that the following year it was made into an official event by Sheffield Hospitals Charity, when over 550 people attended and a staggering £24,000 was raised for the maternity hospital.

Next year’s event is set to be even bigger and better as lots of people have already expressed an interest in taking part as they are keen to help other families with babies in Jessops.

Gemma Fuller from Halfway, who took part in the Buggy Push this summer, with her family said: “Riley and Evie were born at 31 weeks via emergency Caesarean section. They stayed in Jessops for nearly eight weeks and during that time the care they received from everyone was phenomenal and meant so much to us. We will never be able to fully thank the staff for everything they did, but by raising some money, we can hopefully give something back so families continue to receive the great support that we had.”

The date and location for the next Buggy Push has now been agreed and will be held at Rother Valley Park on Sunday 22 May 2016. To add to the fun, the event is being given a superhero theme and everyone who registers to take part will be given a special superhero cape to wear for the day. They are also being invited to get into the spirit of the event and to wear fancy dress to fit with the theme.

Jenna Settle, Fundraising Officer at Sheffield Hospitals Charity, said: “Having a baby is such a huge milestone in anyone’s life and should be a happy occasion, but for some families it can be incredibly stressful if their child is born too early or is unwell.

Taking part in the Buggy Push will fund improvements to help families at a time when they need it the most. I’d urge everyone to sign up and get involved.”

Anyone interested in taking part is being asked to register now at www.jessopsbuggypush.com or contact the fundraising team on 0114 271 1351.

Tickets for the event cost £12.50 for adults and £5 for kids aged five to 15. A family of two adults and two children under 16 can all take part for £30. A free superhero cape is provided with all paying tickets. Proceeds from the tickets will be used to fund improvements at the Jessop Wing.
