£15,500: 3 to 4 days per month (flexible to include monthly Board meetings)

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals was established in 2004 as one of the first NHS Foundation Trusts. It is now one of the biggest (turnover of £855m) and highest performing acute Trusts, providing patient services to over a million people in Sheffield and further afield. It manages the five NHS adult hospitals in Sheffield and offers almost every kind of treatment available through the NHS, maternity services to care of the elderly and A&E.

Since April 2011 it has also been responsible for the delivery of adult community services across the city for patients to be treated in or near their own homes. Over 15,000 people work at the Trust in more than 70 professions, making the Trust the second largest employer in the city. As a Teaching Hospital, the Trust works very closely with both Universities in Sheffield to ensure it is at the cutting edge of medical research and development.

The Role:

  • Help shape the Trust’s vision, values and strategic goals and play a key role in the future direction of the organisation.
     
  •  Provide advice and guidance to the Executive Team, within a broad corporate context and also, where applicable, your own specific area of expertise.
  • Contribute constructively as a Board Director, conforming to the highest standards of corporate governance.
  • Act as a credible ambassador for the Trust working in partnerships with clinicians, managers, governors and a range of stakeholders across the city.

The Candidate:

  • Significant Board level experience in a large, complex organisation coupled with a genuine interest in the local and national health agenda.
  • A strategic thinker with strong intellect and political awareness coupled with the ability to network at a very senior level.
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to bring insight, challenge and support to the Board.
