The Centre for HIV & Sexual Health in partnership with Sheffield City Council have organised an event at the Sheffield Town Hall on Saturday for over 130 women from all over the city for International Women’s Day.

International Women's Day (IWD) is marked on March 8 every year. In different regions the focus of the celebrations ranges from general celebration, respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements. In Sheffield the theme this year is ‘Celebrating Our Role Models’.

Speeches and workshops throughout the day will cover a wealth of topics including Contraception, HIV, young female volunteers, trade unions and parenting. Activities and entertainment also include singer songwriters, journalism and media, Engineering, historical Sheffield women, Belly dancing, and poetry. The keynote speakers for the event will be led by Julie Dore, Leader of Sheffield City Council.

Liz Wilson, Training Manager, Centre for HIV & Sexual Health, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said:

“This exciting day covers a huge range of social, political, celebratory and sexual health themes which we hope the diversity of Sheffield women attending will find educational, moving and uplifting.”

There will be performances, demonstrations and participatory events throughout the day with Belly dancing from the Red Dragon Troupe and a singing performance from The Tchecov Sisters
