Sheffield residents are being asked to raise funds to help support their local hospitals by holding a dinner party.
‘Charity Chef’ has been launched by Sheffield Hospitals Charity to encourage people to cook a meal for family or friends and then to ask their guests to make a donation to the Charity in return for their food. The amount could be a suggested minimum donation or based on what their guests would usually spend on a meal out. The dinner could be a lavish three courses, dishes based on an international theme or something as simple as a homemade pie.
Any money raised from the activity will be used to fund improvements to the care received by patients and their family in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which mainly manages patients from Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster and Chesterfield. The five hospitals that are part of the Trust treat almost every kind of health condition, from cancer to cardio and everything in between. Funds raised from supporters taking part in ‘Charity Chef’ will be used to ensure every patient treated in Sheffield receives the best medical attention available.
To launch the new initiative Fundraisers working at the Charity cooked a three course meal for former patients who have fundraised in the past. The invitation to the meal was to thank them for their ongoing support as together they have raised over £32,000 and to ask them to hold their own dinner party.
The event was made possible thanks to the generous help of the Wortley Arms, whose owners Andy and Toni Gabbitas kindly donated the use of their premises, the support of their chef and all of the food.
Sheffield Hospitals Charity Fundraiser, Isla Denoon said: “I love to cook and I know most of my friends do too, so I came up with the idea as I thought it was a great way to raise money and have fun. It’s something that doesn’t require lots of effort or expense, but means you can feel good about helping others by contributing to making life that little bit easier for patients.”
