Hospital Doctors have asked the public to be careful and not take unnecessary risks as the recent snow begins to turn to ice.
The Trust is keen to avoid a increase in people being bought to the Accident and Emergency Department with fractures at the Northern General Hospital.
Richard Parker Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “ I would urge people to continue to look after themselves in this cold weather by not making unnecessary journeys and also to look after the elderly friends, relative and neighbours to ensure they do not need to go out in severe weather.
"If you do slip or get ill, we are advising people with non-urgent minor injuries or illnesses not to visit the Accident and Emergency department at the Northern General Hospital and instead to seek advice or treatment from their local pharmacist, GP or the NHS Walk in Centre on Broad Lane in the City Centre. This will enable A&E staff to concentrate all their efforts on the sickest and most urgent patients who are in need of emergency care."
