Health chiefs at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals are asking patients to be aware of potential traffic delays and added parking pressures when the Olympic torch passes the Royal Hallamshire Hospital on Monday, 25th June at around 5.30pm.
The Trust’s hospitals will be running a normal day of services but are stressing that out patients and visitors will find it more difficult to get to and from city’s hospital as people from around the area come to see the torch.
The Trust is also advising that visitors who are planning to see their friends or relatives in either Weston Park Hospital, Jessop Wing or the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, should allow extra time for their journey to avoid being caught up in possible heavy traffic.
The 5.30pm and 6.30pm H1 shuttle bus, which runs from Royal Hallamshire Hospital to the Northern General Hospital, will also be affected on this day, with delays of up to 30 minutes expected.
Professor Hilary Chapman, Chief Nurse/Operating officer, said the Trust had been working hard to make sure that it was business as usual at its hospitals on the day of the relay but stressed that visitors will have to be aware that parking and driving to the hospital could be affected.
She said: “We have had robust plans in place for many months to make sure that all of our services will not be affected by the Olympic Torch relay and we are looking forward to seeing it pass so close to our hospitals. However, we would like to make sure that patients and visitors are fully aware of the issues that might arise on the day.”
