Sheffield’s Clinical Research Facility (CRF), which has recently been awarded over £3.1m in government funding, is inviting people to come and see its state-of-the-art facilities and how it is helping pioneer research into new treatments.
The Clinical Research Facility will be holding an open day on Friday 9th March, between 1pm and 4pm at the Northern General Hospital, where people will be able to find out what life is like working in clinical research, and hear about some of the groundbreaking studies currently taking place.
People will be able to speak to leading researchers about their work, see the latest equipment in use, discuss possible careers in clinical research, and browse information stands with materials to take away.
The Clinical Research Facility has recently been successful in gaining significant government funding from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), which will go towards supporting cutting-edge research over the next five years. The award was given based on the facility’s record in producing world-class research and its close links with universities and businesses, amongst other criteria.
Current research in the facility includes exploring new treatments in areas such as motor neurone disease and Parkinson's disease, looking at new ways to prevent stroke, and researching new vaccines for meningitis.
