Movement Disorder service

The hospital provides a comprehensive service for patients with Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. There is a full range of investigative facilities including up-to-date neuroimaging and comprehensive surgical and medical treatments are available.

Continuity of care is assured by the support of movement disorder specialist nurses who are available during working hours and can liaise with local GPs. There are specialised multidisciplinary clinics for Huntington’s disease with input from Liaison Psychiatry, Clinical Genetics and the regional Huntington’s Disease Association care advisor.

There is a service to supply clozapine to patients with advanced Parkinson’s disease associated with hallucinations. There is a botulinum toxin service for treatment of movement disorders including specialised treatment of more complex dystonias.

Patients with Parkinson’s Disease, Huntington’s Disease and dystonia have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of different research projects.
