By public transport

Travel South Yorkshire has created a helpful guide to getting the bus to the Royal Hallamshire and the central campus. You can find the guide here.

Coming by tram

Supertram does not serve the Northern General Hospital. It can be used to reach the Royal Hallamshire, Jessop Wing, Charles Clifford and Weston Park Hospitals, although please be aware that there is still a 10-15 minute uphill walk from the nearest stop (University). We would recommend that anyone who experiences difficulty walking long distances choose some alternative means of travelling to hospital.

By car

The hospital is on Glossop Road (B6069). If you are using SatNav the postcode for the hospital is S10 2JF.

There is a charge for parking, for details click here.

Please be aware that Parking Charge Notices are in operation within the hospital grounds. This is to ensure that ambulances and other emergency services have free access to the hospital at all times. To avoid being issued with a Parking Charge Notice please make sure that your car is parked in a designated parking space.

Parking is limited, so we recommend using public transport if at all possible.

By bicycle

For detailed locations of where public bike parking can be found please see the site map above. For further information on travelling to the hospital via bicycle please contact the Trusts travel Plan Co-Ordinator on (0114) 2266001.

By ambulance or medicar

If you feel that you need an ambulance or Medicar to get to hospital please telephone the number on your appointment letter and speak to a member of staff.

Please note that this service is not available to all patients, only to those with a medical need.

Help with your fares

If you are entitled to certain means tested benefits you may be able to get help with your train or bus fares or car mileage (including a £2.00 contribution to car parking at the multi story car park at the RHH) to the hospital.

Further information and advice is available from the hospital cashiers on 0114 271 2060 and 0114 271 2545 (Royal Hallamshire Hospital) 0114 271 4927 (Northern General Hospital) Alternatively please refer to the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme which has been issued by the Department of Health and can be found by looking at the internet.
