A copy of the Trust's Membership Engagement Plan can be found here

Nearly 12,000 people have already become members of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Membership is open to anyone who has been a patient with our hospitals or who lives locally. All you need to do is register with us.

As a member you will:

• Receive our free members’ magazine ‘Good Health’. It's full of health tips and advice direct from our doctors and nurses as well as valuable information on the Trust and what’s going on in the NHS

• Receive invites to exclusive members’ events. These might range from health fairs where you can come and get your blood pressure checked or open evenings where you get to hear from some of our medical experts

• Have a chance to have your say by taking part in surveys about the Trust or letting the Governors who represent members know your views

• Have the opportunity to vote in elections for the Governors – or stand for election yourself.

Will it take up much time?

Membership is free and how engaged you are as a member is entirely up to you. You might want simply to receive the magazine, or you might want to play a more active role, participating in focus groups or surveys, becoming a volunteer, or standing as a governor. Being a member will not affect your treatment at the Trust.

Who can be a member?

Anyone can apply to become a member. If you have been a patient at one of our hospitals - the Northern General, Royal Hallamshire, Jessop Wing, Weston Park and Charles Clifford you will be registered as a patient member. If you live in the Sheffield City Council area you will be registered as a public member of the Trust, either in North Sheffield, South East Sheffield, South West Sheffield or West Sheffield. If you live outside the Sheffield City Council area you will be registered as a public member outside Sheffield. Staff at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals automatically become staff members.

You can check which membership constituency you are in here: List of membership constituencies of the Trust

Additional Information

What's it like being a member?

Teenager Rebecca Reeves, from Richmond, is a volunteer at the Spinal Injuries Unit at the Northern General Hospital.

She said: “Being a Trust member is very useful; I get to know about the ins and outs of the hospital’s projects and feel well informed about what’s going on in the NHS – I can then feed this information back to my family.”
