Urology is a surgical speciality, covering the diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of disorders of the kidneys, ureters, bladder in both men and women and the prostate and male reproductive organs. Based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, our large multi-disciplinary department deals with all aspects of urology and uses the latest advances in the field to help better manage urological conditions and improve the quality of patients’ lives. We are led by 16 consultant urologists, and provide a local urology service to the Sheffield city region with, additionally, the provision of both general and sub-specialist services to a wider catchment area within North Trent both nationally and internationally. We see an average of 8,500 new outpatients a year, 25,000 follow up outpatient appointments and undertake approximately 6,200 planned and 2,400 non-elective and surgical procedures a year. Many of our consultants are leaders in their specialist fields, who are nationally and internationally renowned for their work. Outpatients clinics are also provided in Chesterfield and Doncaster and a specialist spinal injuries/neurourology service is provided at the Northern General Hospital. |
