Welcome to the Department of Infection and Tropical Medicine. The Department is dedicated to the treatment and prevention of infections and tropical diseases.
We are based on E-floor at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and offer a wide range of specialised outpatient and inpatient services providing clinical care and advice to patients throughout the South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire and Lincolnshire regions.
The in-patient ward have 33 dedicated beds of which more than half are single negative pressure isolation rooms with en-suite facilities. The wards are open 365 days a year 24 hours a day.
We welcome direct referrals from health care professionals. These can be made by contacting switchboard at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital asking for the on-call Infectious Diseases Registrar. We also provide telephone advice and arrange urgent clinic reviews.
The Department has close links and regular meetings with a variety of specialties including microbiology, virology, histopathology, hepatology, genito-urinary medicine and medical imaging. External collaborative links with the Department of Infection and Immunity at the University of Sheffield and at Sheffield Hallam University provide the basis for our research and teaching activities. Infectious disease outbreaks are investigated in conjunction with specialists at the South Yorkshire Health Protection Unit.
We are committed to innovative delivery of care for example:
