Anaesthesia

Anaesthetists are doctors who have had specialist training in anaesthesia, in the treatment of pain, in the care of very ill patients (intensive care), and in emergency care (resuscitation).

Your Anaesthetist is responsible for:

  • Your wellbeing and safety throughout your surgery
  • Agreeing a plan with you for your anaesthetic
  • Giving your anaesthetic and planning your pain control.

Our Department of Anaesthesia provides a comprehensive anaesthetic service to surgical specialities including a dedicated Acute Pain Team and Chronic Pain Services. The team also work with the Resuscitation and High Dependency Units, General Intensive Care Units, Cardiothoracic Intensive Care, Weston Park Hospital and the Jessop Wing.

As a teaching centre the department is also responsible for training junior doctors and as the lead unit coordinates the junior doctors training programmes across the North Trent hospitals.
