The Yorkshire & Humber Kidney Network was established to improve the quality of care for renal patients in the Yorkshire & Humber region, improve patient experience and improve equity of access to care, supporting the delivery of the NHS Long-term plan including the prevention, diagnosis and management of long-term conditions.
YHKN aim to embed positive and sustainable change among the regions AKI, CKD, dialysis and transplant services.By connecting commissioners, providers, professionals, and patients across the renal pathway of care the YHKN facilitates sharing best practice and innovation and assists with the measurement and benchmarking of quality and outcomes to drive improvement.

As well as being involved in all of the different project streams we have a particular interest in the recruitment and retention of nursing staff and clinical support workers. We have made contact with the universities in the region to engage with student nurses to and encourage them to consider a career in renal nursing and the wide variety of options available. We would like to host regular educational sessions for staff working in dialysis units and are working hard to raise the awareness of kidney disease and help improve the lives of those living with this condition.
KQIP (the Kidney Quality Improvement Partnership who is partnered with the UK Kidney Association, the leading professional body for the UK kidney community) has been working within the region shaping, developing, and facilitating quality improvement projects since 2018. In 2021, KQIP began a two-year QI journey which came to an end with the Y&H Kidney Research & QI Conference on the 29th November 2023. The event was a success with 96% of attendees reporting a positive experience.
As part of our commitment to encouraging sustainability in the Yorkshire & Humber’s renal healthcare service, we are excited for the launch of TRUNC_HD (Trying to Reduce Un-Necessary Carbon in HaemoDialysis) with the support of KQIP which is a regional project aiming to reduce Carbon emissions related to haemodialysis.
