We are a group of staff that care for patients with kidney failure that need peritoneal dialysis treatment (about 60 patients).
PD is a home-based treatment for kidney failure and the patients are trained to do the dialysis themselves with the support of regular clinic and home visits from the renal community nursing team.
PD can be done manually or by a machine. If patients need more help it may be possible to arrange for a daily carer to visit and help.
Our patients meet us when their remaining kidney function can no longer keep them healthy and well and they need treatment for their kidney failure. Most patients will have chosen peritoneal dialysis as their choice of treatment for kidney failure, and will have been helped to make that choice by the Renal Pre-Treatment Team.
