Ambulatory wound care & lymphoedema service

The Ambulatory Wound Clinic and Lymphoedema service are a community clinic-based service that provides care for patients with lower limb wounds and primary or secondary Lymphoedema. Our team offers evidence-based treatments and personalised care plans to promote healing and enhance quality of life.

The Ambulatory Wound Clinic specialises in treating lower leg wounds through comprehensive holistic assessments, wound care, compression therapy, and patient education on self-management. We support patients with leg ulcers, varicose eczema, and mild/moderate oedema/lymphoedema. We work closely with the Lymphoedema specialist nurses and other services, including STH Podiatry, Tissue Viability, and the Vascular nurse specialists. We also offer joint clinics when clinically indicated for patients who require podiatry treatment and management of their lymphoedema if they have a wound to ensure a holistic, multidisciplinary approach.

Our Lymphoedema Specialist Service specialises in treating Lymphoedema to reduce swelling, prevent complications, and enhance wellbeing. Our services include comprehensive assessments, manual lymphatic drainage, compression therapy, customised exercise programs, and patient education on self-management techniques. We also offer psychosocial support and work closely with various healthcare providers to deliver holistic care.

The Lymphoedema Specialist Nurses will provide home visits for patients who have palliative care needs and are housebound. The Lymphoedema nurses can support some joint home visits with the STH Community Nursing service for complex cases. These may include significant, chronic swelling which involves multiple or unusual complications, including genitalia, face or trunk, or if the lymphoedema is resistant to standard treatments and/or the presence of other medical conditions complicate the management of lymphoedema.

Telephone support and remote advice is available for all patients and Health Care Professionals during our working hours, however, please note that we are not an emergency service.
