Oral Health Promotion Team

Community and Special Care Dentistry host the oral health promotion team who are commissioned by Sheffield City Council to deliver oral health improvement programmes across the city.

The aim of the oral health promotion team is to improve oral health for local communities and reduce inequalities particularly of children and young people. They cover the whole of Sheffield and work within a range of settings through partnerships between health, local authorities, and the voluntary and independent sector.

We can provide oral health care training to staff working within health and education. We also facilitate supervised toothbrushing clubs in schools and nurseries and provide resources for early years settings to loan.

Key messages to maintain good oral health:

  • Brush teeth twice daily, before bed and one other time of day
  • Use a fluoride toothpaste containing 1450ppm
  • Spit out excess toothpaste but DO NOT rinse
  • Visit the dentist at least once a year
