  • I have received an appointment in the post, but I cannot attend due to other commitments, who should I ring?
  • We completely understand that it is not always convenient, so please ring appointments on 0114 2713625 to cancel/rearrange.
  • Why don’t I see the same nurse at every appointment?
  • The epilepsy nursing team is split into smaller teams of 4 - 5 nurses, who share a caseload of patients. This is to ensure that even if one nurse isn’t available, you can still get our advice and support.
  • I don’t really want to attend a clinic appointment, but I would still like some support, is this possible?
  • We strongly encourage you to come to the first hour long appointment, so we get a chance to meet you and find out about your epilepsy. After this is may be appropriate to keep in touch via telephone or email. We can discuss this in further detail with you.
  • I need a bus pass form, where can I get one from?
  • If you have had a seizure in the past 12 months, you are not permitted to drive and therefore are entitled to claim for a ‘disabled persons travel pass’. You can get a form from the addresses below. For further advice visit the website:

  • If you need some help with your application then we recommend you contact the Citizens Advice Service, ( who are very experienced in this area.
  • I have been to collect my prescription from the pharmacy, and I have been given a different brand, is this ok to take?
  • Sometimes more than one company make the same medication, and this can mean your tablets may have a different brand name or look different. With some medications changing brands can have an effect on a person’s seizure control. If you think this is the case, please contact us.
  • I’ve run out of medication, what do I do?
  • We recommend making sure you request and collect your prescriptions on time so you don’t run out of medication. If you realise that you have run out of antiepileptic drugs contact your GP surgery or pharmacy straight away. Your pharmacy may also be able to help. If it is a weekend or bank holiday contact the out of hours GP service. Alternatively, you can attend the local Emergency Department, explain the situation and ask for a short supply of your epilepsy tablets.
