Teenage Cancer Trust Unit
Welcome to Weston Park Hospital Teenage Cancer Unit. This purpose built, specialist unit was opened in 2002. It has been designed for the treatment of young people with cancer aged 16-25 years.
There are five beds on the unit, four beds for teenagers and one bed with special facilities for patients having high dose chemotherapy and stem cell harvest treatment.
The main aim of our unit is to provide a friendly environment where patients can receive not only the medical care and emotional support of specialists, but also the invaluable reassurance of their fellow cancer patients who are of a similar age.
Hopefully this will help the young people to share their experiences at this important stage of their lives, for example, changing self-image, making future career or study plans, dealing with infertility problems and forming relationships outside the family.
All of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and reclining chairs for friends and relatives wishing to stay overnight.
Each bedroom is equipped with:
- Electronic bed
- A computer with internet access
- Telephone
- Television and video
We also have a dining room and fully equipped kitchen for patients to use.
The informal atmosphere in the unit will help patients to relax with each other and their friends, in a relatively non-clinical setting either in the Quiet Room or the Common Room. There is a roof garden where patients can relax when weather permits.
