Weston Park Cancer Information and Support Centre

Open Monday to Friday 9.00 am - 5.00 pm, drop-in for information, advice and support, no appointment is necessary. This is available for anyone affected by cancer. Health Care Professionals are here to assess and guide you through information and support available as required.

There are free courses available for patients and carers, that provide information and advice in a group setting.

There are appointments available with experienced welfare advisors Monday - Friday. Please call for an appointment time.

Headways

Headways is a service for patients who are likely to lose some or all of their hair due to cancer treatment. Headways offers advice and practical information about the types of headwear available for times when you do not want to wear a wig. Examples of stylish hats and turbans are available with details of where to buy them. Help with tying scarves so you can look and feel confident during your treatment is also available.

The drop in service is based in the Patients' Library on the 3rd floor of the hospital and is open Monday to Friday between 9.30am and 4.30pm

Smoke-free hospital

Please respect other patients by asking visitors not to smoke in the buildings or on the hospital grounds. Driving

If you are a driver you must notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) if you are suffering from a disability likely to last more than 3 months and which will affect your driving. For more detailed information speak to your consultant or visit the DVLA website.

Mobile Phones

There have been many reports published on the effects of using mobile phones in hospitals. At Sheffield Teaching Hospitals our policy is to ask patients and visitors to switch off all mobile phone devices before entering ward areas. Pay phones are available at all hospital sites.

Patientline

The Patientline system, an individual television, radio and telephone console which sits by the side of each bed, is now available on most wards.

Patientline provides patients with free access to radio including the hospital's own radio station, a telephone which can be used to make and receive calls and a television which provides one hour of free viewing per day.

To pay for use of the system, please purchase cards from the machines located on most floors of the hospitals. For more information about Patientline please speak to a member of staff on the ward.

Other Facilities

Telephones are available on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors as well as the ground floor reception area. All phones have been adapted so they can be used by people wearing hearing aids.

HBS Radio (Hospital broadcasting services) broadcasts to the hospital community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To request a record dial *800 free on your Patientline phone, extension 12719 from an internal telephone or (0114) 2712719 from anywhere else.

Trolley visits take place on each ward every day selling magazines and newspapers, sweets, chocolate, drinks, toiletries and stamps.
The Sun Lounge and Roof Garden is situated on the 4th Floor and provides a quiet haven for patients and visitors to relax.

A Scented Garden stimulates the senses and provides a relaxing environment for patients and visitors. The garden can be reached by going out through the conservatory from the Main Reception area on the ground floor.

Refreshments are available at the ground floor WRVS snack bar, which sells hot and cold drinks, snacks and confectionary.

The Dining Room on the 2nd Floor is open at the following times:
Lunch: 1.00 pm - 1.45 pm
Afternoon Tea: 2.30 pm - 4.30 pm
Evening Meals: 5.30 pm - 7.30 pm

Patients' Library

The patients' library is situation on the third floor of Weston Park Hospital and it is open Mondays to Fridays from 9.15am-4.30pm.

The Library has a wide range of books, talking books and large print books as well as a cancer information section. There is also a good selection of DVDs, videos, tapes, CDs, jigsaws and games. A trolley service visits the wards twice a week and regular activities such as bingo and craft afternoons are held around the hospital.

Patients who are regularly attending hospital for treatment, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy are eligible for free parking for your appointments.
