Youth Project 16-24

Youth volunteering at STH is a pioneering new project that encourages 16 to 24 year-olds to take up volunteering and help improve their chances of future employment.

In a recent national survey, over 70% of employers asked said they would choose a job candidate with volunteering experience over one without any experience. The youth volunteering project encourages young people, particularly those who may otherwise be socially excluded to get involved in healthcare and help them decide their future career choices.

As part of the initiative, the Trust's training and development department along with the university health sciences library are offering their facilities for volunteers to gain access to further training and help them progress in their placements.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to make friends, gain valuable skills, increase confidence, gain employment and develop personal and inter-social skills. It has also been medically proven that “doing good” can give you a sense of well-being, improve your immune system and even help you recover more quickly from surgery.

STH welcomes volunteers of all ages. For further information please contact the voluntary services team on 0114 2715735 or 2266045 or email: volunteer@sth.nhs.uk
