What can volunteers do?

Volunteering is different from work experience so there is no health or personal care involved. Volunteers are not there to do the work of a paid member of staff, but to enhance the services already provided.

We have a wide variety of placements available at the following hospital sites; the Northern General hospital, Royal Hallamshire hospital, Weston Park hospital and the Jessop Wing; including mealtime support, patient feedback, meeting and greeting and speech and language patient support.

We also have roles to support our community services.

We are also able to offer many volunteering opportunities not directly related to healthcare but that still contribute to improving the patient experience. These include hospital radio, arts and drama projects, administration and reading to patients.

Many volunteer opportunities require a weekly attendance during office hours. Opportunities are also available for some evening and weekends. This will be shown in the advertisement so you can decide if the opportunity fits with your availability
