Clearing House Process
The Clearing House has four stages and looks at:
- Application form – The personal statement is scored against criteria determined by the Trust and candidates are scored on selective criteria.
- Course summary – The course summary (reference) is requested from the University. This is again scored against criteria determined by the Trust.
- Drug Calculation Test - Candidates will be asked to attend a drug calculation test prior to the interview day. Any candidate failing to score the required pass mark of 100% will be given a further 2 chances to retake the test. Should candidates fail the test after the three attempts, the invite to interview will be withdrawn. If candidates have already been offered a position then the offer will be withdrawn.
- Interview Day – If candidates are successful in the application stage, course summary and drug calculation test, candidates will be invited to an interview. The interviews last 30 minutes and are scored against set criteria.
Although every effort is made to offer a post to all candidates who successfully meet the clearing house criteria, the Trust makes no guarantee that an offer will be made.
Please ensure that you also complete the preference sheet and return to the Human Resources Department by post. Although candidates are asked to show which site they would prefer to work, the Trust can only use this as a guideline as posts applied for are from departments across the Trusts sites of the Northern General Hospital, the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, the Jessop Wing and Weston Park Hospital.
Candidates will be notified of the outcome by letter only approximately 10 working days after the allocation day.
A conditional offer letter is sent to successful candidates together with a date for notifying the applicant's intention to either accept or decline the employment offer. It is important that you notify us by this date.
Candidates who are unsuccessful due to one or more of the following will be notified appropriately and in writing:
- Not meeting the short-listing criteria
- Not meeting the Assessment Day criteria
- Not meeting the course summary criteria
- Failing to successfully complete the Drug Calculation Test
- Where a vacancy for a newly qualified staff grade cannot be identified
Every effort is made to offer a post to all candidates who have successfully met all the above criteria, however, the Trust makes no guarantee that an offer will be made.
All offers of employment are subject to receipt of the following:
- Completion of the applicant's training programme
- Health clearance
- Pre-employment check in the Human Resources Department
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau clearance
- Recommendation by the candidate's University to access the professional register by the anticipated employment start date (previously notified by the candidate)
- Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and receipt of the candidate's NMC registration details
Please note: it is the applicant's responsibility to notify Recruitment Team 2 if their personal details or circumstance change e.g. postal address, training completion date.
