Inherited Cardiac Conditions
The Inherited Cardiac Conditions Service investigates, treats and supports patients and families with a wide range of inherited cardiac conditions.
Our team is led by Dr Nigel Wheeldon, and the service is provided in partnership with the Clinical Genetics Service at Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Patients will meet with one of our nurse specialists who can provide counselling and life long support to patients that are affected by an inherited condition.
The service collaborates closely with the cardiac rhythm management service, the specialist aortic clinic and cardiothoracic surgeons. Our team has a national reputation for the quality and depth of service that it provides.
We see and care for patients with a number of conditions - These include:
- Inherited arrhythmia sydromes (including Sudden Adult Death syndrome)
- Cardiomyopathies, including cardiac manifestations of muscular dystrophies
- Inherited arteriopathies, including Marfan’s syndrome
- Those with a family history of congenital heart disease, where this is known to be inherited.
