Moving to Us

If you are a usually seen at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, when you reach the age of 16 your care is transferred to the Ophthalmology department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

We hope to make your transition to adult services as smooth as possible. This webpage gives answers some common questions and aims to introduce our department to you.

Who will be seeing me?

Usually one of the orthoptic team will see you before your appointment with the Doctor. Please have a look at Our Team page to see who might be assessing you.

Where is the department?

We are located on A Floor of the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. Please see the How to Find Us page.

What’s different?

Essentially, the orthoptic assessment part will be the same as you had at the Children’s Hospital. You can choose if you would like your parent or carer to be present during your appointment. Our department looks and runs slightly differently to what you’re used to but we have filmed a video tour to introduce you to your new setting.
