Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic

This is a specialised clinic for patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, running for over 30 years, and one of the largest in the country.

The clinic provides review for patients with established inflammatory bowel diseases or evaluation of patients with suspected IBD.

The ward base for the service is also supported by an investigation unit for day-case administration of biological therapies such as Infliximab and Adalimumab.

The team also has extensive experience in the use and monitoring of drugs such as azathioprine and methotrexate. In addition to clinics, the Department provides a nurse –led telephone help line and extensive access to information leaflets. A Transition Clinic for patients transferring from paediatric care runs on a regular basis, in conjunction with the Sheffield Children’s Hospital .

There are close working relationships with the Department of Colorectal Surgery, who have considerable expertise in surgical aspects of these conditions as well as state of the art options for x-rays and imaging.

The Inflammatory Bowel Disease clinic at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital runs every Thursday afternoon.
